Best Types of Human Hair Extensions

CHOOSE THE BEST

Choosing the best attachment method for your extensions is just as important as choosing the best quality human hair and a qualified, experienced and highly trained stylist.   Even superior quality products  such as SHE by SoCap or Great Lengths hair extensions can look horrible when applied by a stylist who does not have proper education, hands-on training, and experience.  At On Stage, our team is led by SoCap national educator, Bernard Ory, and a team of highly trained, experienced stylists.  We have carefully researched every application technique in the industry, and we use an attachment method that gives you the best of everything.  With our special application process, your hair extensions are applied in a way that is not only safe and comfortable, but also non-damaging and completely undetectable. The attachment point is practically invisible which allows your new extensions to blend beautifully and naturally with your own existing hair for a look that is gorgeous and authentically realistic.  No one will know that your extensions are not actually your own hair.  They really do look that natural and amazing.

OUR UNSURPASSED APPLICATION METHOD

KERATIN BONDING:  Our SoCap remy human hair extensions have special 100% keratin tips.  Keratin is the natural substance from which your own natural hair is made.   The keratin tips on the extensions create a strong invisible bond as they are gently applied to your hair strand by strand.   The feel is weightless and comfortable, and the method is completely non-damaging to your hair.   The strand by strand method allows your extensions to move and flow in a fluid, natural way, just like your own hair.   There are no uncomfortable beads, no damaging chemicals or glue, no sewing –just absolutely gorgeous hair that you will adore.

For special events when you need temporary length and volume added to your hair, we also offer clip in hair extensions.  Clip in extensions are fabulous for special occasions, and can add length, color, highlights, curl, and volume instantly.  They are also easy to remove when you are ready to return to your normal style.

METHODS THAT SHOULD BE AVOIDED

While we go to great lengths to offer only the best quality hair extensions and attachment techniques at On Stage, this cannot be said for all salons who do extensions.   If you are considering lengthening your hair, do your research, and avoid inferior quality extensions that are applied using methods that can actually cause hair damage.    The methods described below are options that we do not recommend.

WEFTS, TRACKS, AND WEAVES:   Weft, track, or weave hair extensions are probably the most widely used type of hair lengthening technique on the planet.  This method uses hair that has either been hand-tied to create a  hand-wefted section or “panel” of hair, or fed through a special sewing machine which stitches the individual strands of hair together with a seam at the top to create a machine weft.

Weft extensions are attached close to the scalp.  The problem with this type of attachment method is that it's applied so close to the head that it causes tension. Tension is only tolerated by thick, coarse or strong scalps, and only a small part of society falls into the strong scalp category.  The overwhelming majority of people who try to wear weaves experience uncomfortable tension, accompanied by pain, itching, little red bumps and even bald spots (called Traction Alopecia) in many cases.  For this reason, we do not recommend weaves, wefts or tracks as an option.

MICRO LINKS:   Micro link hair extensions (also known as rings, locks, beads, or loops) are a widely used and popular method of attaching hair using small barrel-shaped metal rings.  The big selling push for this method is that extensions are supposedly re-useable and therefore, more economical.  This all sounds good in marketing, but there is a catch, and  neither a new stylist getting into the extension market or clients think about this until it needs to be done. After micro link hair extensions are installed for the first time, a haircut and style is done to create a finished look.   Weeks later, when it is time to adjust the extensions, they have to be removed and then reattached.  This is where it gets difficult and becomes like a puzzle.  The extensions cannot be attached as randomly as they were the first time.  Every strand must be put back on your head in the exact same position where it was before in order to keep the same effect.  Otherwise, your hair will have to be cut again to shape up any uneven areas, which can end up removing many inches of length, defeating the original purpose.
Another drawback with this method is that the metal ring used for attachment also holds a small amount of water that usually develops a slight odor. Most people wearing the extensions are unaware of the odor of their hair, and others won’t usually say anything for fear of offending a friend.  The metal can also eventually wear through the plastic or rubber coating and start to cut or damage your hair.
